ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY FOR THE INTERNET

Effective use of technology, which is part of the Ontario Curricul= um (1998), includes the safe and ethical use of computers at school and at home. Students must demonstra= te responsibility for their actions. The same behaviours expected in the classroom also apply to the use = of the internet.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY

Students will:

üuse comput= er equipment responsibly

üaccess the internet only when there is teacher instructional direction and supervision=

üsend and download appropriate school related messages only

üuse appropriate language at all times

ühave teach= er approval for all e-mail messages sent

übecome awa= re of copyright and plagiarism laws and honour them

üuse only t= hose passwords assigned to them

üto have a permission form signed by a parent/guardian

ünot trespa= ss into another's folders, work or files

ünotify an adult immediately, if by accident, you encounter materials which might viol= ate the rules of appropriate use

übe prepared to be held accountable for your actions and = for the loss of privileges if these rules are violated

STAFF RESPONSIBILITY

Larkspur staff will model responsible use of the internet. They will provide direction and supervision while students are accessing the internet. They will direct and limit student= s to appropriate sites for educational purposes (i.e. Schoolnet, Yahooligans, Schoolworld)

PARENT/GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILIT= Y

· read and discuss this policy statement with your child to ensure that it is fully understood

· provide supervision if your child is accessing the Internet at = home to complete school related tasks.

The staff at Larkspur encourages every student to participate in exploring the potential that the internet has to offer.&= nbsp; However, access to the computer network is a privilege, not a right.
